Let’s get back to basics
As the name of my blog is #basicswithbaker I thought it was about time I shared why ‘basics’ are so important
One of the primary ‘Basics’ for me is CHOICES.
Realising you have choices can be a serious game changer. Our basic needs are the driving force for many of the choices, priorities and decisions that we make consciously and sub-consciously on a constant basis. You have the choice to respond, react, be still, be loud, be more, be less, share opinions, speak up, turn away….you have the choice to be…..
During my HR training I remember being shown the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, I looked at the pyramid shared diagram with its 5 layers, each one a different colour and with a different description. It struck me how catagorising humans basic needs made them have more focus, more emphasis and therefore more understanding is created for everyone.
However…..the biggest influence on my need for stripping away complexity, and really getting back to basics was an article I read which took the description of ‘basic needs’ to a whole new level of connection, depth, understanding and desire.
If you’ve not heard of Tony Robbins 6 Basic Human Needs let me introduce you to it 😊
THE 6 HUMAN NEEDS ARE:
1. Certainty: assurance you can avoid pain and gain pleasure
2. Uncertainty/Variety: the need for the unknown, change, new stimuli
3. Significance: feeling unique, important, special or needed
4. Connection/Love: a strong feeling of closeness or union with someone or something
5. Growth: an expansion of capacity, capability or understanding
6. Contribution: a sense of service and focus on helping, giving to and supporting others

I’ve discovered that it’s absolutely crucial to understand what your basic needs are, and equally crucial to communicate these to others.
Yes I need the survival basics like food, shelter, warmth but my genuine need for basics that allow me to thrive like variety, to be needed, to expand and contribute is equally important for my survival.
In every part of the work I do with clients there is a ‘back to basics’ starting point – once you remove the noise, the clutter, the complexities that are naturally surrounding us what becomes clear very quickly is your personal platform, your baseline, your launchpad to make lifelong awesome change to multiple aspects of your life.
