Have you ever thrown a sickie?

Today is National Sickie Day.

‘According to national statistics, the first Monday in February is the day when people are most likely to pull a sickie.

One of the factors attributed to this is the first payday since Christmas, meaning people have been out celebrating all weekend with a particularly heavy one. Another theory is that people have a tendency to re-evaluate their career path in January, meaning that a lot of these sickies are actually to attend interviews. These factors combined have been linked to the estimated 350,000 absences from work on the first Monday of February last year.’

Maybe this year will be different given the global pandemic…… with people not going out for heavy weekends as an example.  As I’m typing this, Pubs where I live have been closed for weeks and before that alcohol wasn’t allowed to be served in pubs either! With interviews taking place over zoom now, the need for ‘throwing a sickie’ for these reasons is far less required.

But I do think may of us are re-evaluating lots of aspects of our lives, all the time, it isn’t just a January thing anymore.  In the last few months alone I’ve re-evaluated my business, my office area, my diet, my brand messaging, the number of WhatsApp groups I’m in, my goals, my car, the amount of the same black gym kit I have and my sanity! 😊

And since I’ve been self-employed, I’ve definitely had ‘duvet days’ rather than throwing sickie’s – I’m the boss so lying to myself saying I need the day off as I’ve got a jippy tummy isn’t quite the same 😊
